New Zealand born, Australian raised, Los Angeles based. An entrepreneur at heart, I started my clothing line ‘Ruby Smallbone’ when I was 21 years old after completing an Advanced Diploma of Fashion Design in Sydney, Australia. Over the course of the next eleven years the brand developed a cult following and I grew the business to have a significant presence both nationally and internationally. It was featured in Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week in 2008 and 2010. After many fulfilling years running the business, a change of direction and a much needed break lead me to LA in 2014. I worked as a creative consult for an Italian-made footwear brand called House of Meandher before getting back to designing clothes in 2016. I created and directed the first women’s collection for Venroy, an established Australian lifestyle brand. The following year I joined Xirena, a Los Angeles based contemporary womenswear line, taking the role of Head Designer for 18 months. After devoting the past 5 years to raising my 2 boys, I am ready to take on a new creative role. I’m open to freelance, part-time or full-time work and I’m looking forward to working with like-minded people on a product I love and believe in.
